checklistMake a birth plan
Decide in advance: which hospital, how to reach there (108/102 number), who will go with her, money for emergency, and a blood donor from the family.
Write the phone numbers on the MCP card.
local_hospitalDelivery only in hospital
Every delivery should happen in a health facility with trained staff. Under JSSK, delivery, medicines, tests, food, blood and transport are free in government hospitals. Under JSY, the mother gets cash help.
Home delivery increases the risk of death for the mother and baby.
bedStay 48 hours
After a normal delivery, the mother and baby should stay in the hospital for at least 48 hours. Most dangers like heavy bleeding happen in the first 2 days.
Visit the mother at home on the day she returns.
warningDanger signs after delivery
Heavy bleeding, fever, foul-smelling discharge, severe belly pain, fits, or feeling very sad and not caring for the baby. Refer her at once.
More than 1 pad soaked in 5 minutes means heavy bleeding.
