Ear and hearing care
child_friendlyHearing in babies
A baby should startle at loud sounds from birth and turn towards sounds by about 6 months. If not, refer for a hearing test. Early help lets the child learn to speak.
Newborn hearing screening is done under RBSK.
healingEar discharge
Pus or fluid coming from the ear needs a doctor. Do not put oil, hot water or any liquid in the ear. Keep the ear dry. Do not clean ears with sticks, pins or matchsticks.
Untreated ear discharge can lead to deafness.
elderlyHearing loss in adults
Elderly people who speak loudly, ask for things to be repeated or keep the TV very loud may have hearing loss. Refer them for testing; hearing aids can help. Protect ears from very loud noise.
Face the person and speak clearly — do not shout.
