Who is an ASHA
personA link between people and the health system
ASHA means Accredited Social Health Activist. You are a woman from the village, chosen by the village, usually one ASHA for about 1000 people. You connect families with health services.
You are the first person families come to for health help. Your trust is your strength.
checklistYour three roles
1. Facilitator — you bring people to services like ANC, immunization, delivery and screening. 2. Service provider — you give first aid, ORS, zinc, IFA, contraceptives, pregnancy test kits and malaria tests. 3. Activist — you make the village aware of its health rights.
Always tell families which services are free.
medicationYour drug kit
Your kit has: ORS, zinc, paracetamol, IFA tablets, albendazole, condoms, oral pills, pregnancy test kit, cotton, bandage, antiseptic, and malaria RDT and medicines where needed. Check expiry dates and refill at the monthly PHC meeting.
Keep the kit clean, dry and away from children.
